Dear Friend of the Sea,

This month, we have many victories to celebrate — and we have you to thank for this success!

It was your letters of appeal and encouraging words that helped us protect the Arctic from all commercial fishing, save sea turtles from harmful fishing practices, and carve out marine protected areas along California's central coast.

So, what’s next? We hope you’ll meet us at a beach or inland waterway near you for our 24th Annual International Coastal Cleanup this September. If you haven't already, please join the hundreds of thousands of other volunteers for the Cleanup.

And if you’re on Facebook, I’m excited to announce that we just created two new "Apps" for the Cleanup — you can help spread the word by checking them out: Take a Beach Break, or find out Which Ocean is Your Ocean today.

See you at this year’s Cleanup, and once again, thanks for all you do to help us champion the ocean!

Please Send a Message to Protect the Arctic

Recently, we asked for your help in protecting the Arctic from all commercial fishing — and thanks to your support, we won! So, today, we're asking you to keep the momentum going for the Arctic. This vital ecosystem is sensitive and vulnerable to disturbance by impacts of oil and gas drilling. Please send a message to Secretary Salazar — calling for better science and a more precautionary approach in the Arctic

Victory on California's Coast

Earlier this month, California's Fish & Game Commission approved a sweeping plan to protect ocean habitats between Santa Cruz and Mendocino County. Read more about this long-awaited step — that you helped us achieve — on our caloceans.org site

International Coastal Cleanup on Facebook

We just launched two new Facebook Applications! You can either take a beach break by creating your own slideshow (complete with the sounds of the beach) with your favorite pictures from the beach, or you can find out which ocean is your ocean — and some easy things you can do to help protect it. We hope you’ll enjoy them, and that you’ll help us spread the word on Facebook about Ocean Conservancy and our Cleanup.
